Veterinary Pathology

The still increasing and most common of metabolic diseases in domesticated cats is chronic kidney disease (CKD), especially the most elderly patients >12 years old. CKD in cats, however, has some differences in histologic features in contrast to people and dogs. This review article provides a deep level of understanding on the clinical features, morphology and proposed pathogeneses of CKD in geriatric or aged cats. A good understanding of the disease, it’s risk factors (such as aging, dietary phosphorus intake, and routine vaccinations) and progression, all key factors for a better management and evolution of treatment in these patients.
